THE Move September 2001

Fort Wayne, IN to Glendale, AZ

"We really did it!"

Actually the trauma and agonies of the move are well behind us, but needed to add this page to capture the spirit. We didn't get pictures of the weeks of packing, the agony of what to take from our 3300 sq. ft. Fort Wayne house to our 1300 sq.ft. Glendale house and the execution. Suffice it to say it was like a war in that the plans went out the window when the van pulled up and we did a lot of "playing it by ear". Ended up with more than a car full for the three day trip and that trip got started some 5 hours later than expected.
A lot of folks have asked how we could give up our mansion in the Fort on its 4 rolling acres and Cedar Creek as the back property line. The answer is that it came to look like the picture on the left even in the summer. Yea, there is suppose to be a front walk there somewhere but someone hasn't dug it out yet, and now that someone will never have to again.
Yep, this is the new mansion in Glendale. Those are rocks in front which don't grow much and cactus that grow some, but crave no watering that we noticed. Sound tough to take care of? Fact is we do have grass in the walled backyard on automatic watering for the grandkids to play on.
Just so you know I am not kidding, here is a quick game of "Kick the Ball" between Allie and Kaity, with Nick and Adam exploring by the fence. That's our lemon tree to the left with the orange and grapefruit even further. Love the walled privacy of the yards in this part of the country.
Ended up being the right move at absolutely the right time in our lives. We VERY much miss the folks we left behind, but couldn't face another winter.
