Lake Powell - Summer 2001

Captain Chris Invites Us Aboard

"The Great Sea Adventure"

Shot of the Wahweap Sunrise, nestled on the sandy beach in a calm canyon cut. Now water this calm immediately caused the barefooters aboard to mobilize, dash for the tournament ski boats and stir the water. That is Rex's boat tied alongside and ready to go. Note also your's truly relaxing and reading on the bow deck.

The Wahweap Sunrise was a three deck, 55 foot monster with two engines and screws, with an 8 knot top speed.

Now what did the foot'n folks do with that smooth water, well Craig was careful to stick only one foot in and Chris just turned his back on the whole thing.

The bottom line was the water got unsmoothed in a hurry!

Before anyone starts believing Chris just couldn't "face" the water, here is a front foot'n shot. Also had to include a slalom shot of our Kaity flying along. Now all but mom and I did the ski, wakeboard or foot'n thing, but managed to not get pictures of them. Sorry.

A final look at Chris foot'n this time up close and personal thanks to the boom off the side of the tournament ski boats. The boom is attached to the pylon in the boat center.

Check out Nick grabbing some BIG AIR off the boat wake. The air got bigger, but he didn't quite land the 180°...this trip. Close, but not quite.

Take a look at the breathtaking scenery we saw everywhere. Here is Lora with Adam, Rick and Gary sitting in the back of Chris's boat as we race toward a slot canyon, the hike of the day. A channel to a sand beach which then narrowed to 3 feet wide at times, with side walls hundreds of feet high, left all listening for thunder as you definitely don't want any rain. Often the slots were blocked by boulders and flotsam requiring climbing and causing deep pools that required swimming to pass. That was an exciting and fun 3 mile (or so) hike!
Managed to "catch Rex, Steven and Leigh taking it easy, but had no pictures of Rex doing his "foot'n" thing with the rest of the guys. Rest assure Rex was definitely one of the "foot'n fools". He was often the instigator of the "foolishness".

Lora and Adam pass on a smile for the camera as well. Bright sun and sitting in the shade make for tough picture taking.

Wait a minute, I didn't know there was a glamorous movie star aboard!! Can you believe it is our own Kaity. Intelligent, athletic and blindingly attractive, doesn't seem fair that one gal should have it all.

Nick (alias Smooth) "hangs out" with his buddy Matt between working on his 180s on the wake board and his sketching/cartooning activities. Left just a little time for "kicking back" but he took full advantage.

You can read Adam's lips here, "Go long Uncle Chris...go REAL long". I understand the big schools are lining up now with hopes of getting a "letter of intent" from this quarterback prospect. Is that a Purdue "P" 0n that "T" shirt, Chris? Lora? Not yet.

The sand beach on which we were anchored was the perfect spot for this type play. At first glance you might ask if Adam could really throw it that far. Trust me he can, and did, with amazing accuracy.

The trip back to the marina was an adventure. With one of the engine's battery dead, we came back on one motor/screw (note the straight up throttle) and had to use the "Old Man of the Sea" as helmsman. Actually it drove just fine on one.

A "sweety hug" during the ride out on a scenic overlook. We did and it was.

A couple of parting shots from the bridge just downstream of the dam. The Glen Canyon Dam is an awesome structure. Only a small section is shown here. Some idea of the dam size is evident when looking WAY down on the mighty Colorado River from the bridge on dam level.

Another adventure with the good folks in Arizona. Mom and I are in the final stages of making our move to Phoenix, so this trip was a VERY busy one with making those arrangements as well as enjoying Lake Powell. As always Lora and Chris had all planned and under control.

Noticed that we managed to not get a single picture of Brett, Craig's son, to include so you would see the full cast of adventure characters. Also noticed not a single picture of Jodi got included, because she stayed so busy keeping things running smoothly, she never saw sunlight(?). If a picture shows up from somewhere including the missing folks (hint!...hint!), I will get it (them) included here.
